Did you know that San Diego has a Brazilian sister city, Campinas, Brazil! Indeed, San Diego has a great Brazilian influence due to the thousands of Brazilians who call San Diego home. With great surf and a lively culture, it’s no wonder that Brazilian Day is right at home in San Diego. In fact, local Brazilians call it the Rio de Janeiro of North America! This year, one of Rio’s biggest performers will be performing at Brazilian Day 2013. Don’t miss your chance to see Monoblanco live and hear as thousands of people chant “M-O-N-O-B-L-O-C-O, what a beauty, huh, Monobloco!” Those who have attended the shows are familiar with this chanting, sung along by thousands of people during the performances. Acclaimed for incorporating diverse rhythms and musical styles to a samba beat, Monobloco has become a calling card for the city of Rio de Janeiro.
Now, besides setting the tone for carnival in the Wonderful City, Monobloco takes its innovative batucada around the world. Last year, Monobloco´s last dvd and cd, MONOBLOCO 10, was in Latin Grammy competition. In 2009, Monobloco performed and gave percussion workshops in Japan, Ireland, England and Denmark. In 2008, it participated in Oceania’s main music festivals: Australia’s Sidney Festival and New Zealand’s Jambalaya Festival, in Rotorua. This year its San Diego’s turn to hear those famous rhythmic beats! Indeed, this year’s Brazilian Day promises to be the most lively yet as we get closer to celebrating the 2014 world cup games in Brazil. There will be over 50 vendors and merchants sponsoring at Brazil Day! Find exotic gifts and enjoy rare Brazilian cuisine this Sunday amidst live music and dance. Join us this Sunday for Brazilian Day 2013 as we make the gooooaaaaaalllll!
