The San Diego Chargers 2013 season has kicked off with a new coach, new players, and a 1 and 1 start. The Chargers have given us a glimpse of their team performance and fans are excited to see where they’ll go from here.

The Chargers have a lot of new faces on their offense and defense and a new head coach, Mike McCoy. McCoy had recently worked as defensive coordinator for the Denver Broncos and is known for his polished defensive style. Joining McCoy is new General Manager, Tom Telesco. Telesco spent 15 seasons with the Colts and held the position of vice president of football operations for the Colts the past six years. New players joined the Chargers ranks this season too, including new faces on defense Dwight Freeney, Manti Te’o, Jarius Wynn, Kwame Geathers, Thomas Keiser, D.J. Smith, Tourek Williams, Derek Cox, and Richard Marshall. New faces on offense including Keenan Allen, John Phillips, King Dunlap, Chad Rinehart, and D.J. Fluker. Whether the additions will make all the difference Chargers execs are looking for is still undecided.

Let’s look at the 2013 record so far: In the pre-season, the Chargers went 1 and 3 with their only win against the Cardinals, 24-7. To be expected right? With the Cardinals performance, they are quite lucky they are not in the same Division as the Chargers so they wont have to go through such an embarrassment again this season.
The Chargers kicked off the 2013 season with a loss against the Texans. Despite the Texans being one of the best teams in their AFC, the game was close, 31- 28 and it was a thrill to watch. In the first half, the Chargers were dominating the Titans offensively with big gains on our home field.
In the second half, third quarter though, the Chargers lost steam and Texans regained the lead with the high power offensive that they’re known for. Chargers QB Phillip Rivers did a good job of keeping the game alive but Texans squeaked out a lead at the end to win the game. Chargers fans were reminded of their game last season against the Broncos, when they fell apart defensively at the end.
In their second game of the 2013 season, Chargers went head to head against the Eagles in Philadelphia. The Chargers played a great game. Offensively that maintained long drives, taking a lot of time off the clock. This was a brilliant strategy played by head coach McCoy, especially against the fast paced style attack of the Eagles.
This win against the Eagles was a great high for the Chargers and Chargers fans. This season, offensively and defensively they are a strong team. Chargers played and lost in their third game of the season against the Titans in Tennessee. In a thrilling match up, both Philip Rivers and Jake Locker picked apart the other’s defense. Both quarterbacks saw a lot of pressure, but the difference-maker was the Titans’ run game. Final score Titans 20, Chargers 17.
On October 14th Chargers will play the Colts at Qualcomm Stadium. The Colts will be coming in high off a win against the Raiders so the Chargers-Raiders game is one of importance when Chargers meet the Colts this season.
The Jaguars host the Chargers next for their October 20th game at Everbank Field. The Jaguars are 0-2 this season, losing to both Kansas City and Oakland. After the break, Chargers play the Redskins November 2nd before getting a go against the Broncos. Looking forward in the rest of the season, the Denver Broncos will be the ones to look out for.
Chargers and the Broncos first go head to head November 10th at Qualcomm- Chargers fans do not miss that one! Then they’ll head to SunLife Stadium to play Miami. The Dolphins are on top of their game 2-0 against the Browns and the Colts. Chargers play the Kansas City Chiefs November 24th at Arrowhead stadium, the Chiefs are 3-0, with their resurgence and tactical new coach Andy Reed their defense will not be easily beaten but it can be done.
The Chargers then come back home to play against the Bengals, December 1st and then against the Giants December 8th. The Charger’s season ends with rematches against the Broncos, Raiders, and Chefs on December 15th, 16th, and 17th . All in all this is a tough division and the Chargers will have to be tough to compete, making hopes for a spot in the playoffs challenging, but our bolts from the blue know how to keep their fan base guessing.
