Description: Sun, sand and cinema hits the Gaslamp Quarter and ArcLight La Jolla for the 12th annual San Diego Film Festival. The region’s preeminent event features a spectacular mix of independent films from the US and around the globe showcasing emerging and veteran filmmakers in feature, documentary and short film categories.

For five days the Festival is the annual destination for a red-carpet cinematic immersion where thousands of Hollywood insiders, filmmakers, celebrities, film enthusiasts, journalists and business executives gather to connect, convene and converse over the latest exciting film offerings.

Produced by the educational nonprofit San Diego Film Foundation, the Festival is the signature fundraising event, and as well, is one of region’s fastest growing cultural experiences. The second annual San Diego Comic Fest will be a friendly, uncrowded comic-convention experience where you can relax and hang out with writers, artists, filmmakers, and fellow fans. Special guests include Phil Tippett (special effects master, winner of Academy Awards for Jurassic Park and The Empire Strikes Back), David Lloyd (U.K. comic artist and co-creator of V for Vendetta), Disney Legend Floyd Norman, Marv Wolfman (writer of best-selling New Teen Titans), and Jeremy Shada (young actor and voice of Finn the Human on Cartoon Network’s wildly popular Adventure Time). Special all-ages crafts workshops and programming including “Make your own My Little Pony Cutie Mark” and “Make your own Warehouse 13 Artifact.” Enjoy programs and presentations, dealers room, live art demonstrations, and much more in a fun, casual setting.

Description: The La Mesa Chamber has partnered with the La Mesa Village Merchants Association to host this three-day festival with 400 vendors offering goods and services, food, children’s activities, entertainment, and German brats and cold beer. Beer garden location: the Allison St. parking lot between Pine and Palm.

Description: You are invited to our Halloween Bash, so be sure to wear your Halloween Costume for a Spook-tacular parade and gather up treats around the museum. Hear a ghost story or two about San Diego. Read the Halloween Night storybook by Arden Druce, sing some spook-tacular halloween songs, and create a creepy craft to take home.

Description: Yellowcard is an American pop punk/alternative rock band formed in Jacksonville, Florida in 1997, and based in Los Angeles, California since 2000. Their music features the use of a violin, unusual for the genre. They are probably best known for their song “Ocean Avenue”, which peaked at #37 on the Billboard Hot 100. The band went on to a two-year hiatus then announced their return in August 2010 and released their seventh studio album, When You’re Through Thinking, Say Yes, in March 2011. Their latest album, Southern Air, was released on August 14, 2012.

Description: The Scream Zone is one of San Diego’s largest and scariest haunted attraction. Open on select dates in September, October, and November it features a huge House of Horror with rooms filled with terrifying scenes and scares lurking at every turn, a one-of-a-kind Haunted Hayride through the haunted barns on the world-famous Del Mar Race Track and The Chamber with the largest spinning tunnel in San Diego.

Experience an outdoor terror that is simply too big to house indoors. This year The Haunted Trail features an additional maze called “The eXperiment”. For five extra bones you can find out what happens when Mother Nature takes her eye off the ball for even just a second.

Description: The Oceanside Public Library is pleased to host Besos de Coco, which translates from Spanish as “Coconut Kisses.” The merging of talents and influences from each of these women results in a seductively delicious sound that maintains its roots in the romantic music of the old-world Mediterranean, Latin American, and Jazz traditions. This free concert is suitable for all ages.
