Point Loma, a community of luxury beachfront homes and hotels, is the prime destination for families and honeymooners. It is conveniently located right along the beach. In this beautiful part of San Diego, there are several places of interest, including the Historic Gas Lamp District, Presidio Park, the zoo, the Historic Gas Lamp District exhibits, and the San Diego Zoo. If you are a nature lover and love to hike, the La Jolla Point Loma trail system provides several opportunities for hiking and biking.

Just north of San Diego, you will find two popular family attractions: Sea World at San Diego Bay Park and Mission Bay Park. Sea World offers exceptional whale watching, as do several other marine-life shows, while Mission Bay Park features a large variety of picnic areas, playgrounds, family attractions, nature programs and an authentic “shoreline aquarium”. Several San Diego hotels are right on either side of these popular tourist destinations, so you can be just steps away from activities and entertainment. These two San Diego family attractions offer excellent beach access and easy access to the north and south shores.

The best way to see the rest of the coastal California coast is to travel from west to east. One of the most popular and beautiful places to visit is Coronado State Beach, near Coronado, California. Here you’ll discover miles of sandy hiking trails, beautiful beach access, and ocean-side dining. You’ll also find the Mission Bay Park within walking distance, where you can enjoy fishing, swimming, hiking, bicycling, and playing in the sand. For those who love to bird-watch, the coastal portion of Coronado State Beach is ideal, with wooded areas and shaded coastal trees. Other Coronado beach activities include boat tours, surfing lessons, and sailing or snorkeling.

Mission Bay Park is located directly in the heart of San Diego city. This popular San Diego family fun park contains two wonderful beaches – Pacific Beach and Balboa Park, just a short walk from each other. Pacific Beach features the very popular Balboa Park concession stands and is the oldest surviving public park in California. As for the Balboa Park beach, it features some great public access points, several highly-visited museums, and a fascinating play of man and nature – the Balboa Park Theater. Both beaches have great access to San Diego’s beautiful and exciting downtown area.

The coastal portion of San Diego features two unique family-friendly destination spots: the Embarcadero and the Historic Gas Lamp District. If you love the look and feel of an old-fashioned downtown San Diego market, the Gas Lamp District is the place for you. Embarcadero features fantastic shopping and dining options, while the historic Gas Lamp District offers a unique glimpse into the history of the California coast.
