San Diego Museum of Art: Culture and Cocktails

Find your inner beast at the October edition of Culture & Cocktails at the San Diego Museum of Art. Come dressed as your favorite monster or make a beastly mask on-site inspired by the museum’s featured exhibition The Human Beast. The night will feature an intriguing display of dark circus performers, then grab a cocktail before heading into the Funhouse Lounge for plenty of amusements. Top off the night at the Club Cabaret After Party where DJ Scot Roberts will keep the beats going all night long. The C&C after party will begin at 9pm and end at midnight and is included with main event admission. The Sculpture Court Café will be transformed into the Club Cabaret After Party. Enjoy cocktails, bites and live music all sponsored by Giuseppe Fine Catering.

The Human Beast will explore the many faces of Expressionism, focusing particularly on the artists’ attempt to evoke primal emotion in their depictions of unidealized nudes, the horror of war, or the overstimulation of modern life. Major new acquisitions from the Kondon-Giesberger bequest include works by Otto Dix, Egon Schiele, and Max Pechstein, and these join a strong group of Expressionist paintings and drawings that have long been at the Museum of Art, among which works by Alexej von Jawlensky, Gabriele Münter, Beckmann, and George Grosz are particularly notable. A small group of loans will round out the selection.
