Description: The new White Box, San Diego’s freshest performance space, will truly come alive with 13 evenings of live arts, April 5- 21. The premiere Live Arts Fest was created and curated by San Diego Dance Theater artistic director Jean Isaacs and the newly formed White Box Collective, a group of local emerging choreographers including Blythe Barton, Anne Gehman, Kerry Greenwood, Maria Juan, Zaquia Mahler Salinas, and Minaqua McPherson. The first annual Live Arts Fest promises access to all types of live art including dance, mime, theater, music, light installations and more. The Fest will feature workshops and performances by 24 local, national, and international artists.

Description: El Gran Silencio is a rock en español band from Monterrey, Mexico that blends a variety of rock, reggae, dancehall, and dub influences with traditional Latin American musical forms such as cumbia, vallenato and banda as part of the musical movement known as Avanzada Regia. Current members include brothers Cano and Tony Hernandez, Isaac “Campa” Valdez, Julian “Moco” Villarreal, and Ezequiel Alvarado. Their first album (1999) is titled Libres y Locos, which means ‘free and crazy’ in English. It was on this album that they scored a hit with the song “Dormir Soñando”. Their follow up album (2001) is called Chuntaros Radio Poder (“Chuntaro” referring to a type of Mexican music and referenced in the song (“Chuntaros Style”) and was even more successful than the first. Their third album is called Superiddim Internacional Vol. 1. Their latest album (2006) is called Comunicaflow Underground. El Gran Silencio was the opening act at LA Rising in Los Angeles, California on July 30, 2011.

Guitarist Tim Lowman’s side project Low Volts released its debut full-length Twist Shake Grind Break in 2011, also winning at that year’s SDMAs. The following year, they won Best Local Recording at the SDMAs.

When: Saturday, April 6, 9 a.m.

Where: Qualcomm Stadium, 9449 Friars Road, San Diego

Description: Get “dashed and splashed with color” while running the courses. Participants choose which of four routes to run, in what order, and how often. Each Color Course ranges from 1 to 1.3 Kilometers. Wear white or light gray clothes so the bright dyes show up. Kids 6 and under run free.
