san-diego-county-fair-2015What: San Diego County Fair
When: Friday June 12, Saturday June 13, and Sunday June 14, 2015
Where: Del Mar Fairgrounds
Description: Start your summer at the 2015 San Diego County Fair – Friday, June 5 through Sunday, July 5 (closed Mondays and the first two Tuesdays). For centuries, people across the world have traveled to World’s Fairs to celebrate innovations, art and agriculture. In 1915, people flocked to San Diego for the Panama-California Exposition, held in Balboa Park. To celebrate the 100th anniversary of this milestone event, and the history and influence World’s Fairs have had on the modern-day, the 2015 San Diego County Fair theme is A Fair To Remember: A Celebration of World’s Fairs and Balboa Park.

The San Diego County Fair, presented by Albertson’s | Sav-On, offers all of the deep fried food on-a-stick, rides, animals, and games you’ve experienced at other state and county fairs, but is also known for world-class exhibits in fine art, photography, woodworking, jewelry/gems & minerals, and home & hobby, and the Paul Ecke Jr. Flower & Garden Show…not to mention an unsurpassed view of the Pacific Ocean from the Ferris Wheel! The Toyota Summer Concert Series at the San Diego County Fair features nationally recognized entertainment every night; the entertainment lineup is usually announced in late March. With an additional eight stages located throughout the grounds, you’re sure to find a band, dance troupe, DJ or comedian to suit your fancy!

The San Diego County Fair is the largest annual event in San Diego County & the 4th largest fair in North America, drawing 1.4 million visitors annually.

steel-pantherWhat: Steel Panther Concert
When: Friday June 12, 2015
Where: House of Blues San Diego
Description: Satirically pretending to be a hair metal band that missed its big break in the ’80s, singer Ralph Saenz (“Michael Starr”), drummer Darren Leader (“Stix Zadinia”), bassist Travis Haley (“Lexxi Foxxx”), and guitarist Russ Parrish (“Satchel”) hit the club circuit on the Sunset Strip around the turn of the millennium under the name Metal Shop (later changed to Metal Skool, and then Steel Panther). With big spiky wigs, leather jackets, zebra-striped spandex, chops earned from playing in a Van Halen tribute band, and lots and lots of machismo, their comic take on sex, drugs, and rock & roll to the extreme caught on quickly, leading to sold-out shows and some unexpected brushes with mainstream success. As their popularity increased, the Hollywood crowd started frequenting their sets, often making appearances on-stage. This led to some opportunities: the band fittingly played the role of a metal band as “Danger Kitty” in a Discover Card commercial; they appeared on The Drew Carey Show as themselves; and their song “FF” was used as the theme for MTV’s Fantasy Factory.

Perhaps Trower’s most famous album is Bridge Of Sighs (1974). This album, along with his first (Twice Removed From Yesterday) and third (For Earth Below) solo albums, was produced by his former Procol Harum band mate, organist Matthew Fisher. Those who favor electric guitarists who can play live what they record in the studio will be very impressed with the “Robin Trower Live” album – especially the cut “Daydream”. While often compared to Jimi Hendrix, Robin Trower never received the publicity nor same volume of fans.
