San Diego Black Film Festival  

The San Diego Black Film Festival (SDBFF) celebrates its 10th anniversary as it returns to the Gaslamp Quarter from Jan. 26-29. SDBFF will showcase a wide range of films spanning genres of comedy, drama, documentary, animation, GLBT, horror, shorts and feature films at Reading Cinemas Gaslamp 15. There will be plenty of parties including the 1970s-inspired Shaft Superfly Party on Friday night the Awards Dinner and Gala on Saturday. Tickets range from single events to full Festival VIP access and get be purchased from the Festival Website at www.sdbff.com.

Kayaking Tour

For only 15$ per person, Aqua Adventures Kayak Center at 1548 Quivira Way, hosts a weekly fun and social guided tour of Mission Bay suitable for all skill levels. Enjoy a 2 hour kayak session in either a single or tandem kayak. Reservations are not required, but please arrive no later than 5:30 pm as boats launch at 6:00 pm sharp! Nadia Ali at Stingaree

The famous Pakistani-American singer-songwriter, Nadia Ali, is becoming a strong force in the music scene after releasing her hit song “Fantasy” with Morgan Page. Ali has also recently collaborated with Armin Van Buuren, Schiller, Sultan & Ned Shepard, Chris Reece, Tocadisco, Serge Devant and Starkillers. For only $10 come watch Nadia perform an intimate performance at Stingaree with her hypnotic electronic dance  music.

Zumba at Step in Step

Lunar New Year Festival 

From 11am to 11pm, plan a day trip to Kearny Mesa, either Friday, Saturday or Sunday for this unique cultural & charitable event whose mission is to promote the Asian cultural heritage during an important traditional holiday. Located in the Sears’ parking lot on Clairemont Mesa Blvd, The Kearny Mesa Lunar New Year Festival features traditional fun-filled family elements such as Asian Food, Lion Dances, Firecracker shows and Red-Envelope Giveaway, as well exciting Carnival Rides, Games, Merchandise, and Hip-Hop, Lion Dance, and Talent Competitions. Start the New Year right & you’ll be sure to have an absolutely fabulous 2012!

Chinese New Year Food & Cultural Fair 

Ring in the Year of the Dragon during the 30th Annual Chinese New Year Food & Cultural Fair, a free, two-day celebration taking place on 3rd Avenue and J Street in downtown San Diego from 10am to 5pm Jan. 28-29. Presented by the Chinese Cultural Center, the fair will feature a vibrant array of traditional festivities, including lion and dragon dances, Kung Fu and Tai Chi demonstrations, lantern parades and a tasty spread of Chinese and Asian cuisine, with proceeds to benefit the Center.

Bridal Bazaar

San Diego’s largest bridal show of the year at the San Diego Convention Center will be held this Sunday. Named “San Diego’s Best Bridal Show” by brides every year since the inception of Bridal Insider’s People’s Choice Awards, the Bridal Bazaar provides more ideas, fashion and choices than other bridal shows. Bridal Bazaar features over 300 of the area’s most talented wedding professionals with thousands of fresh ideas to make weddings spectacular. In one day couples can explore over 60 ceremony and reception locations, compare the work of 45 photographers and videographers, preview dozens of DJ’s and musicians, see the latest trends in flowers, décor and invitations, sample cake and catering options, talk with honeymoon and transportation specialists, and much more. From 11:30 a.m., 1:00 p.m. and 2:45 p.m, San Diego’s most extensive preview of the latest wedding styles from top national designers will be on display. Open Volleyball

Starting at 9am in Balboa Park, get active this weekend and join in on open Volleyball at Balboa Park Activity Center. There are three courts organized by skill level. It is pick-up volleyball, so you can sign onto a team with open spaces or bring your own team. Games play rally score to 25 and the winning team stays on the court.
