San Diego Things to Do

If you’re looking for things to do in San Diego, look no further than this city. This California metropolis is jam packed with exciting activities year-round. The city was named one of the “most livable cities” in the world by the author, geography and traveler, Richard R. Kildare. San Diego boasts the most extensive collection of beaches in the western United States. Here are just a few fun things to do while in San Diego.

The first of San Diego things to do is to visit the numerous San Diego beaches. Among the most popular ones is La Jolla Beach, Beaches at Coronado Beach, Point Loma Beach, Surf City Beach, Point St. George Beach, and Mission Beach. Each of these offers a different type of activity, from surfing, jet skiing, boogie boarding, lounging by the water, or simply walking around. If you want to play it safe, you can go for a stroll at the zoo or take a bike ride along the Pacific Ocean. If you’d rather be active, you might try horseback riding, hiking or camping—there’s something available to suit your tastes.

Another of San Diego things to do is to get into the heart of the city by taking a scenic drive. Starting at the Pacific Ocean, the San Diego Embarcadero is one of the most scenic drives in the country. Starting at Del Mar Fairgrounds, the drive takes about an hour. Along the way, you’ll see historic landmark spots like Balboa Park, the William Heath Davis House, the Embarcadero Park and much more. At Mission Bay, you can walk to the edge of the bay. At the far end of the trail, you’ll find the Casa Beach Hotel, with stunning beach view.

For a great San Diego family fun experience, the beach at Mission Bay is where you want to be. The beach has several nice beaches, including La Jolla Cove and Casa Beach, and features two hotels—the Mission Bay Inn and the Torrey Pines Inn. At each of these beaches, you’ll find great San Diego things to do, including surfing lessons, swimming, boating, snorkeling, kayaking, fishing, snorkeling, or simply just looking at the beautiful scenery. If you’re looking for more action, you might want to take a day trip to the nearby Miramar Marine Land on your way back to San Diego.

For the hiking trails in and around the city, consider the Pacific Beach Trail. This trail starts near Pacific Beach Drive and goes all the way to Junipero Seaway State Park. While you’re here, you might also want to try some of the other popular San Diego local hikes, such as the Mount Soledad and the trails to the Windansea Beach Park.

If you like water parks, then you will certainly want to visit the various San Diego things to do in and around the Sea World. You can even go on a tour of the various areas at the Sea World. Inside the park, you can get to see all sorts of rides, such as the Monster Sea Roller, before experiencing it for yourself at the water park itself. A great thing about Sea World is that you can bring your family along to enjoy it, which means you get to meet all of your favorite characters in all their natural habitats.
