San Diego Startup Week 2014

San Diego Startup Week is a premier channel for creativity and innovation. Taking place from June 17 to June 21, 2014, the week boasts of great events and enjoyment, by amateurs and entrepreneurs alike. Scheduled to occur in Downtown San Diego, the weeklong event features top innovators in the field of clean-tech, biotech, cross-border tech manufacturing, defense technology, mobile technology and online markets. Participants in this event include great entrepreneurs, investors, service providers, well-known community supporters and others.


A volunteer based local group of entrepreneurs known as the StartUP San Diego organizes the Startup Week. This year the schedule of great events is as follows:

June 17, 2014

12:00 pm – SAM Fest by CyberHive

SAM Fest: Startups, Art, & Music is presented by CyberTECH CyberHive in collaboration with iHive, Analytics Ventures, EvoNexus and Wireless Incubator. The event will feature 21 companies competing in front of a panel of 9 judges and giving presentations on new technology concepts, the Internet of Things, cyber-security, data and analytics. The event is divided into 3 tracks, the winner of each track will go to the final pitch round. The SAM Fest pitch winner will become a member of CyberTECH c6 Accelerator. The event is also interspersed with art and music by San Diego’s newest talents.

7:00 pm – Opening Ceremony

The Opening Ceremony gala is a night of revelry, hosted by Digital Telepathy. This startup bash brings together all the up and coming tech-stars of San Diego on the DT mezzanine floor. This is the opportunity to celebrate new technologies and each other’s contribution to the field. It is the chance to honor your accomplishments as an individual and as a community. The party will feature craft cocktails, handmade hors d’oeuvres, local beers and great beats from DJ Wolfgang von Cope. It is a night to remember as people start arriving in their most vivacious outfits with hats and wigs, even costumes.

June 18, 2014

12:00 pm – DLA Q&A Lunch by EvoNexus

Larry Nishnick, a partner and former startup general counsel, will hold a Q&A session at EvoNexus to discuss recruitment and fundraising cycles. The topics of discussion will range from the issue of founder shares, employee stock options, Series Seed financing, how to maintain flexibility when offering incentives to founders, investors and employees, and much more.

5:00 pm – Startup Crawl

This is the opportunity to have fun and network with other attendees. There are four treks to choose from which lead through startup offices. It is a great opportunity to learn about their services and products and their work environment. All treks end at EvoNexus where you can replenish your calories with good food and beverages. Socialize during and after the treks and get to know your fellow startups a bit better. All treks are scheduled to start at 5:00 pm and you get free parking space with your ticket.

June 19, 2014

7:30 am – SDVG Venture Summit

Attend this exclusive event at the Marriott Marina Hotel from 7:30 am to 12:00 pm and gather around successful entrepreneurs and investors. The event is a fabulous ground to know more about great companies and learn about the latest technologies. The event is attended by hundreds of people, dozens of companies and offers a chance to network. 2014 HOT Topic speakers include Daniel Obodovski, Dr. Ron Reedy and Greg Lucier.

12:00 pm – Demo on the Docks

This is an outdoor activity that includes demonstrations and presentations of new products and services offered by San Diego startups.

3:00 pm – Speed Mentoring

This is the perfect place to be mentored by successful entrepreneurs if you are a serious startup. It is a one-on-one session and can take place over four 30-minute sessions. The chief aim of this activity is to provide you with a way to work out the chief obstacles you are facing now. This is an open-to-all event and the startup companies themselves pick their mentors. Startups are only eligible if they are full-time, have complete teams, released an early MVP and have gathered feedbacks from their first customers. Speed Mentoring will be held at the Café Sevilla with food and drinks provided at the after party.

6:00 pm – Demo Night

At this demonstration event, a few number if San Diego startups, 5 to 7 in number, will share their current project. The showing of the actual product is emphasized with an explanation of the process and challenges they have faced. It is a great way to meet the community and has one of the biggest number of attendees in the week. It will be hosted at the Café Sevalla Club with time allotted for networking before and after the demos.

8:30 pm – Tech Founders and Tech Scene Startup Bash

San Diego tech Founders and Tech Scene join to give you a Thursday night, party of the event. Meet with your mentors and companies, and enjoy the great live music and delicious foods.

1:00 pm – Startup Panel Discussions

Speakers from San Diego offer presentations on a wide range of topics. They offer different viewpoints on the innovation economy, latest technology, products and services from many startups.

6:00 pm – Startup Boost

This is a networking event that offers ample opportunities for entrepreneurs to connect with the vast local resources as a way to grow their business.

12:00 pm – Geek Girl Tech Con

This one-day long conference is dedicated to the empowerment of women entrepreneurs, amateurs to startup savant. Whatever be the status and degree of expertise, this conference covers all topics to help women on their journey. More than 500 women will come together to learn more about Adobe (Photoshop, InDesign, Elements), building Mobile app, how to operate of PC and Mac, Microsoft and Apple Mac software, social media like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+ and the use of popular mobile devices, smartphones and tablets. The day will also showcase entrepreneurial workshops where you get to learn and use your knowledge at the same time.
