San Diego Chargers 2012 Season Highlights and Schedule

The 2011 San Diego Chargers with a 8-8 record were a major disappointment since they were a Superbowl contender and the Chargers failed to improve on its 9–7 record from 2010, and finished in a three-way tie with the Denver Broncos and Oakland Raiders for the AFC West division title, but lost the tiebreaker to the Broncos and missed the playoffs for a second consecutive season.

SURPRISE ! Norv Turner is back ? (hes not Fired ?) He started in 2007 with an NFL best 14-2 2006 Chargers team and has gone downhill since he became coach. The Chargers have only made one Superbowl appearance in 1994 and deserve a better coach and management.

San Diego Chargers 2012 schedule

San Diego Chargers

San Diego Chargers Offense:  The San Diego Chargers has a lot of talented NFL players making it one of leading contenders for the NFL playoffs in 2012. then the Chargers. But they have had several missteps last year in their NFL regular season. The San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers put up a lot of big numbers last year including 4,600 yards and 27 touchdowns, but also  threw for 20 interceptions, which ruined his and the team’s success.

Some of the trades made by Chargers GM AJ Smith are puzzling. Vincent Jackson is gone to Tampa Bay. Jackson led San Diego receivers last year in catches, yards and touchdowns and had a 10-catch game for 172 yards with two touchdowns at New England in September. Jackson is 6-foot-5, 231-pound receiver and he brought another dimension to the Chargers
that they are now missing. Antonio Gates is a force, but he hasn’t been healthy and the Chargers will need him to 100% for the Chargers 2012 Season. Can the new 2012 draft picks four NFL veterans including wide receiver Robert Meachem and returners Eddie Royal, Roscoe Parrish and Micheal Spurlock  make up for the loss of key players from the Chargers 2011 roster ? Can San Diego receivers Malcom Floyd, Robert Meachem and Vincent Brown make the Chargers passing offense what it used to be ?

Chargers running backs Ryan Mathews and Mike Tolbert have been carrying the load for running game but the offensive line has been broken down by tough NFL defense teams including the San Francisco 49ers and now the resurgent Denver Broncos led by their huge acquision of the new Superbowl winning quarterback, Peyton Manning.

San Diego Chargers Defense: Some defense players to note include Antwan Barnes who had 11 sacks machine but the loss of players like Shawne Merriman has been felt since .  Meanwhile, Eric Weddle grabbed 7 interceptions, making for a big play threat in the defensive backfield, and linebacker Takeo Spikes grabbed another 100 tackles, which he can
seemingly do at will. All of those players are back, giving them a solid presence at every line of the defense.

The AFC West is still a weak division, and the Chargers may be the most talented team of the bunch, despite the loss of several key players and despite the struggles in recent  years. However, one wonders if their window for being a truly top flight team has closed and passed them by.
