Description: The 3rd annual San Diego Comedy Festival will take place this year from January 25 to 31 at The Comedy Palace. This year’s festival will feature more than just your local favorites. You’ll also be able to enjoy stand-up from national touring headliners.

The show will include comedy shows and contests, TV and radio personalities, celebrity comedians, guest speakers, as well as bookers, managers, and agencies looking for new talent. The festival part of the event will include corporate-sponsored booths, prizes and giveaways, and lots of delicious food.

Mike Epps has generated an extraordinary amount of buzz among his peers within the entertainment industry for being one of the funniest comic actors to emerge in the Hollywood scene as of late. 2008 proved to be an impressive year for Epps. In February, Epps appeared in the Universal Studios ensemble comedy “Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins,” opposite Martin Lawrence, James Earl Jones and Joy Bryant. In April 2008, he appeared in the indie film “The Grand,” directed by Zak Penn and starring Woody Harrelson and Cheryl Hines.

Comedians who have submitted from all over the country compete in the San Diego Comedy Festival “Contest Round 1” Shows. Winners from Round 1 shows will go on to compete in the Semi-Finals on Saturday Night. Those winners will then go on to compete in the Finals on Sunday Night at 7:00pm. Greg Dean has been teaching and writing about the fundamentals of joke writing and performing stand-up comedy in his workshops since 1982. When he began, Dean quickly realized there were no documented basics for teaching comedy. For the past three decades he’s made it his lifes mission to identify, name, and teach the basic techniques used by all great joke writers and comedians. These fundamentals were first published in his book Step By Step to Stand-Up Comedy. Now, these same joke writing and performing techniques are available as a series of exercises in his Step By Step to Stand-Up Comedy – Workbook Series. Dean was honored as Best Comedy Teacher 2012 from the LA Comedy Awards. He lives with his wife headlining comedian Gayla Johnson in Los Angeles, CA and currently writing a book on advanced stand-up comedy techniques.
