What: Michael Franti and Spearhead

When: Friday, August 17 after the last race

Where: The Del Mar Racetrack

Description: This Friday night summer concert series at Del Mar presents “Say Hey” singer, Michael Franti. Performances are free with paid racetrack admission ($6 for Stretch Run and $10 for Clubhouse.) Admission is $20 for concert-only access following the start of the last race. The first race is at 4 p.m. with the last race scheduled for approximately 6:30 p.m. The concert is open to all ages and begins following the last race on the Seaside Stage, located at the West end of the Grandstand.


What: Stone Brewing Company 16th Anniversary

When: Friday, August 17 from 6pm-9pm and Saturday, August 18 from 11am-2pm and 3pm-6pm

Where: Stone Brewing Company in Escondido

Description: Happy Sweet 16 to the Stone Brewing Co! Celebrate this weekend starting on Friday with the exclusive Brewers Reception and again on Saturday, with 40 breweries and 100 beers, plus food, entertainment and a commemorative 16th Anniversary tasting glass. Tickets can be purchased on the Stone Brewery website starting at $40.

Where: The Del Mar Racetrack

Description: Come celebrate the Del Mar Racetrack’s 75th anniversary by sampling a variety of beers during the Beer Fest beginning at 1:00 pm. Ben Harper will be rockin’ the Seaside Stage following the last race.


What: Identity Festival

When: Saturday, August 18 from 2pm-11pm

Where: Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre

Description: Don’t miss out on one of the biggest electronic festivals of the summer. The Identity Festival summer tour arrives in San Diego this weekend! Tickets are still available starting around $90.


What: Twain Fest

When: Saturday, August 18 from 11am-5pm

Where: Old Town

Description: TwainFest is a free Celebration of Mark Twain and other writers of the 19th Century. Hear works by Walt Whitman, Emily Dickinson, Harriet Beecher Stowe, Paul Laurence Dunbar, Edgar Allan Poe and others, read aloud by San Diego actors. Don’t miss the sack races, ring toss, marbles and other games of the period that will be played on the green. Or come and participate in the Community Spelling Bee or make a contribution to the ‘Never Ending Story,’ to which anyone who wishes may contribute.


WhatMidnight Madness Fun Bicycle Ride

When: Saturday, August 18 from 8pm-2am

Where: Starts at Spanish Landing Park

Description: The Midnight Madness Fun Bicycle Ride is a fun night of bikes, beer, food, contests, and entertainment to support community youth programs. The 39th annual event will be held along the beautiful San Diego Harbor. The cycling route is a primarily flat 11-12 mile loop course along some of San Diego’s most beautiful waterfront and historic areas. Mark your calendars and plan to show up early because this is the first year our ride begins at 9pm and is followed by a festival. Prices range from $10-65.

Description: The San Diego Lantern Festival 2012 is an one-of-a-kind event in San Diego that brings together neighbors, businesses, students and community groups for a safe, fun, and cultural experience. The San Diego Lantern Festival is a perfect mix of great food, vendors, over 12 thrilling carnival rides and games. The 2012 Lantern Festival will feature the 2nd Annual MISS ASIA SAN DIEGO PAGEANT™ as well as a fantastic line up of cultural entertainment, lion dances, street performers, and a breathtaking display of (6,000) lanterns in the evening.
